I think only you can answer that question.
If it feels right then tell him. But, before hand, tell him that you have something to tell him and ask him to be honest with you -tell him to tell you exactly how he feels about what you tell him at that moment and that you won't be hurt if it freaks him out but you need to know UP FRONT!!

IM-guy wouldn't surprise me with any possible reaction, unless, of course, he thought it was great that it happened.
I will say, when we had our little phone sex session, he told me he is slow and gentle. And he told me before that I am the kind of girl you make love to, and not just have sex with. I guess that is a good thing. I dunno.
